Summer Seminar 2024 Resource Center
Seminars held at Birchman Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas
“You may be able to articulate a biblical worldview but if your biblical worldview doesn’t arise from the deep and growing love of Jesus Christ and the love for others (particularly sinners – just like us) then, you may have a biblical worldview but it doesn’t have you!”
– Dr. Bill Brown, Ph.D (Colson Center for Christian Worldview)

Essay: Invitation to the Pain of Learning by Mortimer J. Adler
Excerpt: “Whoever passes by what is over his head condemns his head to its present low altitude; for nothing can elevate a mind except what is over its head; and that elevation is not accomplished by capillary attraction, but only by the hard work of climbing up the ropes, with sore hands and aching muscles…I say that this is the only adult education that is genuinely educative simply because it is the only kind that requires activity, makes no pretense about avoiding pain and work, and is always working with materials well over everybody’s head.”
Excerpt: Each generation must realize the importance of Christian engagement in culture. To forsake that divine responsibility is to surrender to secular forces that will undermine the human condition. Secularization strips away the spiritual aspects of life resulting in a loss of authentic meaning and purpose. How is the believer to respond when secular forces endeavor to squash faith? What actions should Christians take to contest secularization and advance the human condition?
Essay: Our Civilisational Moment by Os Guinness
Excerpt: “It is plain that the West has lost faith and confidence in itself. It no longer knows how to tell its own story, and it is gambling the civilization on which it rests. The present moment is moving towards a decisive phase of the showdown. Too many people are in denial and too few realise the gravity of the stakes.”
Article: Recovering the Gospel of the Kingdom by Michael S. Craven
Excerpt: The gospel is the fact that in Christ, the reign of God is at hand and is now breaking into the world. His kingdom, which has come, continues to come forth and will be fully consummated on the day of Christ’s return. This is the good news, which offers both a present and future hope that touches all of God’s creation! In addition, this kingdom gospel expands the mission and purpose of the church…
Article: The Gospel as Public Truth by Lesslie Newbigin
Excerpt: The Gospel is an account of things that have happened. It is not a proposition in metaphysics or a program for ethics and politics, though it has implications in both these spheres. It is narrated history, and (like all narrated history) it is told with a belief about its meaning. This belief is that the story tells what God has done for the redemption of all creation and its reconciliation to the source of all being…. We may confidently expect and pray for new understandings of the scope of God’s purpose for our society and new energy for doing our part in it.
Post: Redemptive Church and Why Public Theology
Excerpt: Christianity is not a private religion. Christianity is a public truth! But, ambassadors must be taught and sent. Abraham Kuyper has said, “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, Mine!”
Article: The Three Worlds of Evangelicalism by Aaron Renn
Excerpt: Where once there was a culture war between Christianity and secular society, today there is a culture war within evangelicalism itself. These divisions do not only represent theological differences. They also result from particular strategies of public engagement that developed over the last few decades, as the standing of Christianity has gradually eroded. Within the story of American secularization, there have been three distinct stages…
Blog Post: On the Imposition of Liberty by Douglas Wilson
Excerpt: “What is the relationship between virtue and liberty? Not only is it an important question, it is also a vexed question. Not surprisingly, a good deal of confusion surrounds it. Some of the confusion is honest confusion, and some of it is not so honest. But either way, it is still confusion.” Video Link…

VIDEO INTERVIEWS
Live Webinar and Q&A with Michael Craven 03/4/2024
Topic: Why the Church Abandoned the Culture
The Christian faith has gone from being a public truth to a private experience.
The role of the Church in the broader culture has waned over the past 100 years. As faith has receded from society, dark ideologies have set up residence in the cultural domains vacated by Christians. Little wonder our families, communities, institutions, and even churches are in decay. What would our churches, families, communities, and nation look like when Christians invade all of culture with the truth and light of Jesus Christ? Lance Cashion is joined by special guest, Michael Craven, Vice President of Equipping & Mobilization at the Colson Center for Christian Worldview.

“At Summit Ministries, we prepare rising generations to know God’s Word and apply it, refute false ideas, protect life, embrace biblical marriage and sexuality, respect America’s heritage, and champion economic freedom. The Apostle Paul carefully studied the dominant ideas of his day and discussed them in the marketplace, in the church, and in philosophical gatherings (See Acts 17:16-ff). We can do no less..”
